Description

Storytelling is a shared cultural experience. In this lesson, students will learn the history of storytelling through immersive experiences including, but not limited to, exploring the cave art paintings of the Lascaux Cave and taking a field trip to Pompeii. Students will sit around a virtual campfire and listen to brief passages of stories from around the world. Students will begin to identify the elements of a story including the character, setting, plot, conflict and resolution.

Sequence

  1. Review Class Objectives.
  2. Discuss the history of storytelling around a campfire.
    1.  Show images from ancient civilizations.
  3. Listen to an Aboriginal story.
  4. Exhibit cave paintings from Smithsonian Magazine.
  5. Watch The Dordogne, France: Lascaux's Prehistoric Cave Paintings
    1. Students will draw their own cave painting using their 3D pen.
  6.  Go on a virtual fieldtrip to an amphitheater in Pompeii.
    1. Introduce the elements of a story.
    2. Students will explore VR characters to use in developing their story.
