Objectives

  •          Explain the importance a setting has to the development of a story.
  •          Demonstrate critical thinking skills as they relate to setting by listening to passages from classic and modern stories.  
  •         Experience the settings from various classic and modern stories through virtual fieldtrips.
  •          Determine the setting where the class story will take place.
  •      Students will present two IFX characters for the story.

Description

Selecting a setting for a story goes beyond choosing a location. To start, students will listen to a passage from two renowned stories, The Odyssey and Harry Potter. Through this experience, students will learn the critical thinking skills used to develop a setting. Students will participate in virtual field trips to locations of modern and classic stories. Students will use their 3D pen to write the name of location(s) they would like the story to take place. Based on student feedback, the instructor will select two locations where the class story will take place. Students will select two IFX characters to use for the story.

Sequence

  1. 1. Brief recap of lesson one.

    2.   Listen to a passage from The Hobbit and a passage from Harry Potter.  

    3.   Using these passages, discuss the critical thinking skills used in selecting a setting.  Students will participate in two virtual field trips to locations of modern and classic stories.

    4.   Students will use their 3D pen to write out two location(s) for the class story. The instructor will select two locations.

    5.   Students will select two IFX characters to include in the story.
