/  Haikuing American Poetry (5 of 5): Final Haiku

Objectives

  • Students will synthesize a Haiku based on two famous American poems.
  • Students demonstrate their understanding of Haiku form through practice.

Description

In the final lesson for the course, students will demonstrate their understanding of the Haiku form, use of visual imagery, auditory imagery, and mood. Students will be taken to the VictoryXR Academy Quad to Haiku either “The Raven” or “The Road Not Taken”.

Sequence

  1. Students will begin by reviewing the different elements from the week. This includes the Haiku form, visual imagery, auditory imagery, and mood. If students were not present through the week, there will need to be a recap of missed areas. The first two stanzas of "The Road Not Taken" can be used.
  2. Students will be taken to the college campus.
  3. We will go through two poems. Students will Haiku the poem and create a scene using the IFX store for both scenes. The poems include "Annabelle Lee" & "Nothing Gold Can Stay".
  4. The goal will be to capture the visual imagery, auditory imagery, mood, and content of the piece.
  5. Students will showcase their work at the end of the lesson.
